Here you’ll find answers to common questions about my practice.
FAQs

There are many types of mental health professionals—psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, APRNs, psychologists, social workers, and counselors—and it can be hard to know where to begin.
As a psychiatrist, I’m a physician who completed medical school and specialized residency training in psychiatry. You don’t need to be on or considering medication to see a psychiatrist; my consultations are holistic and explore biological, psychological, lifestyle, and social factors to understand your concerns.
If you’re unsure where to start, you’re welcome to begin with a free introductory call. Visit the Get Started page to submit an interest form, and we can talk through your goals and determine what kind of care may best support you.

Initial visits are held in person to allow for a comprehensive assessment and to begin building a therapeutic connection. Before we meet, I review your intake forms carefully so that our time can focus on understanding your history, concerns, and goals for care. I’ll share my impressions, practice philosophy, and recommendations for next steps.
My practice style is to take time to develop a thorough understanding of what’s going on. This may include reviewing outside records, ordering labs, or arranging a sleep study when appropriate. For this reason, I do not routinely prescribe medication at the first visit.

Yes. I am in network with HMSA, UHA, and HMAA. I am not contracted with Medicare or Quest at this time.
If you have another insurance plan, you are welcome to self-pay for visits. My current self-pay rates are $400 for a new-patient intake (60–75 minutes) and $250–$300 for follow-up visits, depending on length and services provided.
I can provide a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement if your plan offers that benefit.
-
Yes. After your initial in-person evaluation, most follow-up visits can be conducted by secure telehealth.
Please note that you must be physically in Hawaiʻi for any telehealth appointment.
-
Yes, I care for patients statewide throughout Hawaiʻi. New evaluations are usually done in person at my Kailua office, but if you live on a neighbor island, I am able to offer a telehealth consultation to determine whether my practice is a good fit for your needs.

I provide comprehensive psychiatric care for adults through both in-person and telehealth visits. Services include thorough evaluations, ongoing medication support, and psychotherapy. I often coordinate with therapists, primary care providers, and other clinicians to ensure care feels connected and aligned.
I do not provide:
Letters for emotional support animals
Evaluations for legal, forensic, disability, housing, workplace, or firearm-related matters
Legal representation
Substance rehabilitation or medical detoxification

Yes. I regularly incorporate psychotherapy into visits as part of an integrative approach to care. My style draws from supportive therapy, cognitive-behavioral techniques, mindfulness-based strategies, lifestyle and stress management approaches, and elements of psychodynamic therapy.
Together, we may focus on understanding patterns, building coping tools, and creating meaningful changes that support both emotional and physical well-being. If more specialized therapy is indicated, I may refer you to an outside therapist and collaborate as needed to help ensure treatment remains cohesive.
